The time has come! The trek selection workbooks have been released to us! This is one of the most exciting parts of our preparation! We get to choose our journey on the magical Philmont property.
To facilitate this process, we will be holding 2 informational meetings. We predicted a short turnaround near the holidays and it turns out we were right L We want EVERYONE to come join us for both of these 2 sessions so you have full input. This is all hikers (youth & adult) and parents are welcome too

The Details
>>>> First and foremost, we recommend everyone watch this great YouTube video that goes over many of the activities at Philmont: https://youtu.be/fPNK8f7eQjU
Attached are two documents
- Philmont Trek Selection Worksheet
- This is for EVERYONE to fill out and return to us no later than January 4
- This sheet guarantees we can take into account your opinions and preferences. It does NOT guarantee you will get everything on your sheet
- 2020 Philmont Trek Selection – TROOP 332 Condensed
- This is a consolidated document from a couple workbooks Philmont shared with us
- FYI any table of contents in the doc are inaccurate so please ignore them
Here are the full documents referenced used to create the condensed version:
How your part works
- Watch the above video
- Read the materials
- Be sure to take time to look at the program feature descriptions too
- Focus on the programs and camps first.
- This helps you narrow down what you like and find common treks that have those offerings
- Go to the itinerary matrix (page 28 of pdf, shows as page 16 at the bottom)
- Highlight every x across the page that has what you are interested in
- If you are advanced, highlight them in different colors based on how much you like them (i.e. green like best, yellow for others)
- Now this tells you which itinerary / trek options you should look at in the detail pages.
- Go to the itinerary detail pages and look at the maps and read the descriptions
- The descriptions contain information on other things that didn’t make the matrix page.
- For example, in 2017 my itinerary included Window Rock. It was one of the most amazing views we had the entire trip. But it was only listed in the paragraph details of the itinerary and nowhere else
- Fill out the Trek Selection worksheet based on your preferences
- Remember, we are asking everyone to fill out the form. HOWEVER, the Scout’s opinions and preferences count the most in the selection process
- The descriptions contain information on other things that didn’t make the matrix page.
How our part works
- We will carefully evaluate every form submitted
- We will identify common treks and itineraries
- We will request the itineraries from Philmont
- We will submit 4 sets of 6 itineraries. One set for each crew
- No more than 2 of our crews could possibly do the same itinerary (they would be considered sister crews)
- Philmont will advise which 4 we are assigned after a few weeks (1 per crew)
- Once we receive the itinerary assignments back from Philmont, we will group Scouts into crews based on the forms submitted
